Finding Motivation When You Don’t Feel Like It

Everyone has those days when you could use a little help.

Perhaps it’s not looking forward to your next presentation, or you don’t know where to start with your latest business idea.

Maybe it’s not feeling motivated enough to start that project you’ve been thinking about for months or find that perfect client.

The bottom line is: sometimes we need the right push in life and the right person to give us that nudge.

So, what are some things you can do to keep motivated and moving forward:

1. Be willing to step back to move forward.

Often, the first thing to do when you need to move forward but feel stuck is to step back.

Just stop and avoid trying to force something to happen.

Take a deep look at what needs to be done and break it down into smaller feasible steps. The more you are able to accomplish faster allows you to feel better and be more willing to take the next step.

2. Monitor your state of mind.

When life gives you lemons, it can be hard to see the positive instead of the negative.

It’s ok to stick your head in the sand for a while, just don’t stay there forever.

Focus on the things you can change so you can have a much more positive outlook. Operating from a positive space will motivate you to take steps and make more progress than you ever imagined possible.

3. Identify the root of what’s going on.

Sometimes we don’t realize how many moving parts, people or resources are involved in finding the right solution.

It’s easy to think you’re facing one problem (personal or professional) when it’s really a combination of factors.

Be honest with yourself about what you can change, what you can influence and what parts you need to simply let go.

4. Let go of the past.

Just because you had a terrible experience in the past, doesn’t mean that failure is inevitable for you again.

The past has to define you or your future; embrace the mistake as a chance to learn and grow as it’s often a catalyst for future success.

5. Consider all your options.

Look beyond your current circumstances and explore all your choices and possibilities.

Don’t get caught up and manipulated by your current emotions.

You always have a choice when it comes to your next move and when you really consider all the options, you can feel hopeful, motivated, and empowered.

6. Devise a plan and stick to it.

At this point, you have all the information you need.

You’ve worked to change your mindset, taken a step back, let the past go, and considered your options. Now, it’s time to take action.

Go ahead and set some goals and start realizing your dreams. Get out of your way, follow your heart, and seize the moment.

7. Remind yourself of your “why.”

There’s no time like the present. Take advantage of every opportunity that comes your way and most importantly, always remember your core values.

Remember why you started this journey and what you ultimately want to help you stay strong, motivated and focused.

8. Start small and stay consistent.

Take small steps each day and gradually build momentum toward your goals.

Consistent and steady is the way to go!

9. Discard what no longer works.

Use past experiences as a guide, not a blueprint, don’t be afraid to try something new and innovative.

Sometimes, people fail because they’re scared to branch out or experiment with something new – don’t let that happen to you!

10. Always be grateful.

Your attitude affects and impacts your altitude.

Gratitude is the best attitude to have because it shifts your focus from the negative to the positive.

Your sense of motivation will not always feel present, but with deliberate effort and intention, you can find your way back to it.
